1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to Legal Connect's web app, Android WebView app, backend APIs, account login, bookings, Legal SOS, Court Mission, Documents, receipts, notifications, RNA/Admin tools, legal source uploads, and source-locked LawBot rollout.
2. Personal data we currently collect
The codebase currently supports collection of name, email, phone, selected user role, login verification records, consent timestamp, case/support details, booking/service details, Legal SOS details, draft request details, Court Mission/task details, receipt/payment references, uploaded legal-source text/PDF-derived text, LawBot questions and feedback, notifications, and audit log events.
3. Account and verification data
Users may provide name, email, phone and role. Email OTP verification is sent through Resend when configured. Phone OTP is not enabled in production until an approved SMS provider is configured. Verification records include email or phone, hashed code, purpose, expiry, consumed timestamp, and creation timestamp.
4. Legal-support and service-request data
Bookings, Legal SOS, draft requests, cases, case updates, and Court Mission tasks may include service type, court, case number/CNR where entered, next date, status, notes, amount, work-hold status, counsel/task status, proof URL, problem summary, uploaded facts, and related payload details entered by the user.
5. Documents and uploaded content
The frontend contains forms for draft-related file selection and the admin source library supports official PDF/text ingestion. Current backend source-library storage stores source text, extracted text, chunks, metadata, citation/source URL, source status and uploader ID. Users should not upload unauthorised, confidential, or licensed third-party content without permission.
6. Payments, receipts and transactions
Razorpay order and payment references may be stored when payment is configured, including order ID, payment ID, amount, payment status, work-hold status, failure reason and verification timestamp. Legal Connect does not store card numbers, UPI PINs, CVV or full payment instrument credentials in this codebase. Receipts are stored for login, bookings, SOS, LawBot, missions, case updates and admin actions.
7. Technical/app data
The frontend uses localStorage for session token, local OTP fallback in non-production/local builds, local receipts, selected mission/case/booking state, notification/payment check flags and app web-version refresh tracking. The server may receive normal HTTP metadata through Render/hosting infrastructure, but this codebase does not create a dedicated IP/device fingerprint table.
8. How data is used
Legal Connect uses personal data to authenticate accounts, route users by role, manage service requests, coordinate legal support, process payments and work holds, issue receipts, send notifications, maintain safety/audit records, operate RNA/Admin governance, and provide source-locked legal information where approved sources exist.
9. LawBot and legal information
LawBot is designed to answer only from approved indexed legal sources stored in the Legal Connect source library. Questions, answers, citations, feedback and related receipts may be stored. LawBot output is legal information, not legal advice. Consult a verified advocate before taking action.
10. Third-party service providers
Legal Connect may use Render for hosting/database infrastructure, Razorpay for payments, and Resend for email/OTP/notification delivery where configured. These providers process data needed to provide their services. Legal Connect does not claim that all provider processing occurs only in India unless confirmed separately with the provider.
11. Data sharing and authorised access
Normal users see their own private receipts and records. RNA/Admin roles can access governance dashboards, receipts, audit logs, SOS/task/bookings summaries and legal source workflows. Advocate/intern access is role-based. Legal Connect does not sell personal data in the current codebase.
12. Retention
Automatic retention or deletion jobs are not implemented in the current codebase. Records may remain until reviewed or manually handled. Some records may need to be retained for legal, payment, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, audit, tax, accounting, or compliance purposes. See the Data Retention Plan for proposed categories that require counsel/business approval before launch automation.
13. Account deletion and user rights
Logged-in users can request account deletion from Profile / Account - Privacy & Data. Public instructions are available at /data-deletion. A Data Principal may contact Legal Connect to request access, correction, withdrawal of consent, or erasure/deletion where applicable. Additional verification may be required before action is taken.
14. Consent and withdrawal
Login requires users to acknowledge the Terms and Privacy Policy for service operation. Optional marketing consent is not combined with this required acknowledgement in the current interface. Withdrawal requests can be sent to the support email, subject to records that must be retained or processed for service, legal, payment, dispute, audit or compliance reasons.
15. Security practices
The current app uses role-based access checks for protected admin/source routes, private receipt filtering for normal users, signed session tokens, hashed OTP codes, and environment variables for provider keys. These are app-level safeguards and are not a claim of certification, encryption-at-rest, anonymisation, or independent security audit.
16. Children's data
Legal Connect is intended for adults and legal-service users. Minors should not independently create accounts or submit legal documents without parent/guardian involvement and appropriate legal supervision.
17. Changes and contact

Payments may be held under Work Completion Hold until a task, booking, or legal-support action reaches the required status. Refunds depend on task status, booking status, proof uploaded, counsel assignment, and actual work completed.
Failed or incomplete tasks may be reviewed by RNA/Admin. If verification fails, Work Completion Hold is not activated. Refund or release decisions should follow the final policy and applicable payment gateway rules.
